Planning Your Senior Session

Being Spontaneous can be a good thing, but typically NOT planning your senior session is not the best idea. Coming from a very OCD person like myself the thought of winging a senior session or walking around without a plan makes anxiety set in for me.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to have every minute of your session planned out, but I want to make sure that we use our time wisely. My senior sessions are held at golden hour so we are also working against daylight and I want to be sure that we make the most of our time together.
I like to talk to my seniors before their session and find out what is most important for them. I have a location gallery that I show them that includes the different spots at different locations. For example our local Art Museum is 164 acres and soo many beautiful spots around their campus. We can spend the entire 2 hours there, but I wouldn't want to just have us walk around for you to look to see if you like certain spots. Plus there are a lot of hills and a lot of walking and if we don't know where we are going then we could potentially waste a lot of our time. My goal is to produce beautiful portraits that you will love, but in order to do that we need to take the time to plan. We need to plan the location and the outfits. I am HUGE into contrast, you should stand out from your background. For example if you want to go to a location that is filled with white fences and white barns, I would not suggest you wearing white as you will blend into the background.
YOU SHOULD BE THE FOCUS!!
Even if we plan out your session, I might see something during our session that catches my eye and we might add that to our plan. We could be walking and the sun is hitting something just right and we will be sure to capture that. My goal is to not limit you session to our plan but to be able to capture as much as we can during your session before all of the daylight is gone.
The more we plan and I get to know you before you session, the more I will know what YOU WILL WANT so that I can do my best to capture IT ALL for you!
That being said if you ask me if we can just "Wing it" or "Just Walk Around" or "Why do we have to plan" and I laugh - You know why :)
