What Location for My Senior Session?

Updated: Feb 27

There are many location options around the Raleigh, NC area to have an amazing Senior Session. The best way to decide is to ask yourself several questions.

Senior Sessions around the Fuquay Varina, Holly Springs, Cary, Apex, Raleigh, Durham and surrounding areas.

  • What season do I want my Senior Session? This might seem like a silly question to ask when trying to decide on a location. But actually it can really help determine the location. If you really want spring flowers, then that narrows down the locations that have the most beautiful spring flowers. If you want fall colors instead of spring flowers those are usually different locations.

  • Do you like nature or buildings? If you would rather have buildings in the background of your portraits then the season doesn't matter as much.

  • Do you like the city or country feel? You might want your senior session in your local downtown area instead of a busy downtown major city like Raleigh. If you like the country feel, you might want to have it on a farm with a barn.

  • Do you like water? Reflections are some of my favorite, there are several lakes around the Raleigh, NC area that are perfect for senior sessions. Especially at sunset with the sun reflecting off of the water!

  • Do you like modern architecture? There are several buildings around the Raleigh, NC area that make the perfect backdrop that have the modern feel.

  • Do you want your session inside or outside? You can find some cool indoor locations for your senior session, what about a local arcade, bookstore, record store, or coffee shop? There are some other really nice inside locations in Raleigh and Durham, NC. I encourage you to call ahead before your session to make sure the business owners are ok with you coming inside to take pictures.

  • Do you like flower fields? Again this would be only available in a certain season. Do you like Sunflowers or Daffodils? If there is a certain flower that is your favorite, ask your photographer for recommendations on when and where that certain flower would be available.

  • Is there a location that has special meaning to you? A park that you spent a lot of time at during your childhood? These can make really special portraits.

  • Is there something special you want to incorporate into your session? Like your truck or car?

There is a lot of consideration when picking the perfect location for your senior session. The best advice is to talk to your photographer and let them know what things you want in your session for them to suggest the best location for you. Also keep in mind a location that has a variety of options is usually the best choice, a location that has fields and modern buildings and some flowers is the best of both!
